Nok Record Shop in Bangkok is a hidden gem for music lovers, offering a wide selection of vinyl records across genres. From classic rock to contemporary indie, it’s a great spot for collectors and casual listeners alike, providing a nostalgic experience with a unique collection of rare and hard-to-find records.

Objectives

The main goal of this project was to showcase not just the technical side of running a record shop but also the deep emotional connection to music that defines Phongsakon’s journey. This project aimed to explore the story of a man who went from selling cassette tapes in high school to running a respected record store, filled with rare finds and a carefully curated selection.
Through this, I sought to highlight the experience of discovering new music, the shared bonds between the owner and his customers, and the value of personal recommendations in an era of digital music. The project also aimed to show the evolution of the record shop as both a business and a cultural space, emphasizing its importance in fostering a community of like-minded music enthusiasts.

My creative process

Step 1 : The client's vision

The first step in my creative process is understanding the client’s vision and values. For the record shop owner, I took time to learn about his passion for music and the story behind his shop. This helped me capture the essence of what made his business unique—his personal connection with the products and the atmosphere of his store. By aligning with his vision, I was able to ensure the video would reflect the heart of the shop.

Step 2 : Collaboration

The next step was executing the shoot itself. During the filming, I collaborated closely with the client to capture his shop’s atmosphere authentically. I focused on the details that told the story—such as the process of selecting records, the store layout, and the interactions within the space. This collaborative approach ensured the visuals matched the original concept and highlighted the unique charm of the store.
Post-production was where everything came together. I carefully selected the best footage and edited it to match the story we wanted to tell. This phase included adjusting color grading, adding subtle sound design, and choosing the right music to enhance the atmosphere. I worked on refining the pacing to keep the video engaging and ensure it reflected the vibe of the shop. The final touches were essential in creating a polished product that told a cohesive and compelling story.
